Sara is a Senior Planner and Associate who focuses on bicycle and pedestrian planning and design, public outreach, and engaging communities of color and those with disabilities. At Toole Design, Sara specializes in developing public engagement strategies, transportation safety campaigns, Safe Routes to School efforts, and pedestrian design guides. She is comfortable with clients of any size or geography, having led projects from Milwaukee, WI to Billings, MT to Portland, OR. Before joining Toole Design, Sara worked for the City of Portland Bureau of Transportation as the City’s Pedestrian Coordinator, Multnomah County as a Health Equity Planner, Metro (the Portland, OR area regional government) as a Policy Researcher, and for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command as an Environmental Engineer and NEPA Planner. Sara holds a Master of Community and Regional Planning and a Bachelor of Science and Engineering in Environmental Engineering. She has also served as a research fellow for the Eno Transportation Institute and the head cook on a dude ranch in Wyoming. After work and on the weekends, Sara can be found cooking her way through the food inserts of the NYT, playing tourist in Milwaukee, running or skiing in the woods, and singing showtunes to her reluctantly listening children.
