Public Planning and Design Charrette (Workshop).

What is a charrette? A charrette is “an intensive design process that involves the collaboration of all project stakeholders at the beginning of a project to develop a comprehensive plan or design.”

The Garfield Park Canal Park Connector project will use a public charrette or workshop as the key venue for neighborhood and public involvement in the planning and design process. This charrette will:

  • be neighborhood focused,
  • involve all project stakeholders (residents, park users, property owners, public agencies, public interest groups, etc.),
  • provide all stakeholders with a common set of facts about the project
  • include a multidisciplinary team of consultants, (including structural engineers, bicycle and pedestrian professionals, urban designers, landscape architects, historians, and public artists)
  • seek to create a visual plan for the area
  • seek to identify and resolve potential conflicts
  • seek to promote joint ownership of a solution

A date, time and location for the charrette will be announced in September.
