Improving the Arborway

Boston, MA

The Arborway in Boston has long been a major gap for bicyclists in Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace park system.  TDG was hired by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to help close this gap. TDG developed the first publically supported vision for the Arborway that involves reconfiguring streets and intersections, replacing crash-prone rotaries with modern roundabouts and providing improved walking and bicycling connections through new sidewalks and separated bikeways.  We are currently advancing the concept to 25% engineering plans and coordinating with DCR to preserve the mature trees canopy that gives the corridor its name.
