City of Austin Selects Toole Design to Support Local Mobility Bond Goals

Toole Design is proud to have been selected by the City of Austin to provide full-time, on-site staff to support the Austin Transportation Department (ATD). Toole Design staff will work on-site with ATD’s Active Transportation and Street Design team, and provide additional capacity to support the City’s goal of doubling the rate of project design and implementation. The projects are funded by the 2016 Local Mobility Bond and other related programs.

Over the next six years, Toole Design staff will assist the ATD street design team to design and implement a variety of projects funded by the Bikeways, Safe Routes to School, and Sidewalks bond programs. Toole Design staff will also work in partnership with ATD and the Capital Metro Transportation Authority to design and implement Transit Speed and Reliability projects. Toole Design will provide training to ATD on cutting-edge design guidance.

To carry out this exciting project with the City, Toole Design is looking for engineers, planners, landscape architects and urban designers who are passionate about the built environment to join the project team in Austin. Working alongside ATD’s nationally-recognized staff, Toole Design’s team will move projects large and small from concept to construction. Tasks will include:

  • community outreach
  • concept development
  • construction design and implementation
  • traffic analysis

ATD and Toole Design are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about active transportation, quick to learn, and willing to take on challenges as they arise in a fast-moving environment. Active Transportation Street Designer I

0-2 years’ experience: Works with clients and colleagues to engage communities, develop concepts, produce quick-build schematic-level construction documents, and assist with the implementation of multimodal projects that range from small improvements to full-scale street reconfigurations.

Active Transportation Street Designer II

2-5 years’ experience: Works with clients and colleagues to engage communities, develop concepts, produce quick-build schematic-level construction documents, and lead the design and implementation of multimodal projects that range from small improvements to full-scale street reconfigurations.

Transportation/Traffic Engineer

3+ years’ experience: Works with staff at ATD and Capital Metro Transportation Authority to develop and implement street designs that help the city prioritize sustainable modes in the transportation network. Knowledge of traffic modeling software highly desired.

Construction Project Coordinator

Works with designers, contract / project managers, and field crews to ensure timely, accurate, and on-budget delivery of sustainable multimodal transportation infrastructure.
