Toole Design Welcomes Amalia Leighton Cody as Seattle Office Director

Amalia brings over 15 years of experience as an engineer and planner who is passionate about finding creative ways to plan and design sustainable transportation systems that support the economic, social, and environmental health of communities.

“We’re excited to welcome Amalia as a part of the company leadership,” said Jennifer Toole, President of Toole Design Group. “She brings a unique combination of talents that are so critical to our work – a deep understanding of both planning and design, and a profound respect for the public process. Her abilities and experience will provide strong direction for our growing Seattle office.”

Amalia joins Toole Design from MIG|SvR Design Company, where she worked on a wide range of planning and engineering projects. Her expertise includes transportation projects, environmental programs and public policy, complete streets implementation, as well as drainage and utility design.

“Amalia is well-respected and known for her technical and management skills,” said Peter Lagerwey, the outgoing Seattle Office Director. “She brings a wealth of experience, having worked on a wide variety of planning and engineering projects throughout the Puget Sound region.”

A graduate of the University of Washington, Amalia is a registered Professional Engineer in Washington and California, and a certified planner. She served on the City of Seattle’s Planning Commission for 10 years from 2006 to 2016, and was Co-Chair from 2014 to 2016. She has also been involved with the Capitol Hill (Seattle) EcoDistrict Steering Committee, the American Planning Association, the American Public Works Association, and the Urban Land Institute.
