Dylan Johnstone is a planner with Toole Design’s team working on-site with the City of Austin’s Active Transportation and Street Design Division. His work focuses on project coordination for a variety of quick-build projects, including bikeways, sidewalks, Safe Routes to School, and urban trails. Dylan brings expertise in community engagement and bicycle and pedestrian planning and programs from the public and non-profit sectors. He holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University, and prior to joining Toole Design, he worked as a Safe Routes to School instructor in Boston and Portland. Dylan also completed research projects on bicycle and pedestrian counting through his graduate work, including writing a guidebook for a state agency on when and where to conduct short-duration counts.
Outside of the office, Dylan enjoys spending time gardening, mountain biking, and looking for his new favorite swim spots in Austin.
