Michael Loughran, P.E.

Senior Engineer

Michael Loughran is a licensed professional engineer with over three decades of experience as a transportation engineer for the City of Milwaukee, Department of Public Works. During his career in Milwaukee, he worked on several significant, transformational projects, and oversaw projects from concept development through final design and construction. Michael managed Milwaukee’s bicycle program between 2004 and 2011, and prior to that he worked on several bicycle infrastructure and programming projects. Michael was instrumental in jumpstarting Milwaukee’s bike rack program and bike lane policy, and he helped develop Milwaukee’s bike map and several bicycle planning documents. He was a member of the Mayor’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Task Force and served as chairman for several years. Michael has a very broad understanding of municipal engineering, having worked on many different types of projects, including traffic calming and streetscape projects.

Michael attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and returned to Madison following his career in Milwaukee.  He enjoys running, recreational bicycling, exploring Madison, following Wisconsin Badger sports, and spending time with his wife and three adult children.
