Samuel Gross

Planner II

Sam is a transportation planner in Toole Design’s Oakland office. Sam received his Master of City and Regional Planning and Master of Science in Engineering from the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. He brings experience in multimodal corridor studies, designing Complete Streets, shared streets and trails, as well as access planning for transit and schools. Prior to joining Toole Design, Sam worked as a Safe Routes to School coordinator and environmental justice advocate. Sam has researched and analyzed the effects of the built environment on pedestrian and bicycle route choice and is currently one of the leading researchers on alleyway activation in the United States. He is also a League of American Bicyclists Cycling Instructor.

Outside of work, you’ll find Sam biking, hiking, camping, and skiing throughout northern California.
