FHWA Guide for Achieving Multimodal Networks: Applying Design Flexibility and Reducing Conflicts (2016)

Toole Design Group (TDG) served as the author of this ground-breaking Guide, whose purpose is to assist jurisdictions, planners, and designers on how to apply design flexibility and reduce conflicts where various transportation modes intersect.  The Guide specifically calls attention to flexible standards and guidance found in existing guidance, including the AASHTO Greenbook, the MUTCD, the Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines, the Highway Capacity Manual, the NACTO Urban Street Design Guide, and other sources. The Guide has been widely praised for providing insights into key roadway design elements that impact pedestrian and bicycle safety. The Guide is available for download from the FHWA website.
