Toole Design Group is excited to announce that Andy Clarke is our new Director of Strategy. Andy brings three decades of experience in national and international bicycle and pedestrian policy, planning and program experience including 12 years as President of the League of American Bicyclists. He joined the League in 2003 to establish and implement the Bicycle Friendly Community program, taking over as the CEO in 2004.
“I am absolutely delighted that Andy decided to join us,” said Jennifer Toole, President. “He will be a tremendous asset to both our staff and clients, developing and helping to implement transformative multimodal policies and programs in the years to come. There are few professionals in this country with the depth of knowledge and experience that he has.”
Andy’s career includes five years as Executive Director of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals – where he wrote groundbreaking case studies and reports for the Federal Highway Administration. Over the past 20 years, he has been involved in nearly every major development in bicycling and walking policy and planning, including the formation of the National Complete Streets Coalition and the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, multiple federal transportation funding bills, and Vision Zero. Andy has trained thousands of state and local officials on bicycle and pedestrian facility design, universal design, and implementation. He has spoken extensively in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Europe on these topics.
As Director of Strategy, Andy will draw on his years of expertise and extensive network to help state and local clients across the country tackle their most difficult transportation challenges. “I am delighted to join Toole Design Group at such an exciting moment,” said Andy. “Jennifer has assembled a world class team of bicycle and pedestrian planners, engineers, designers and program specialists. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to help her chart a course forward for the company that builds on the growing momentum to create more livable communities across the country.”
