Toole Design Group’s (TDG) holiday charity event was a great success this year. TDG partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Germantown, MD to donate new bikes for disadvantaged children ages 5-8 who did not previously own a bike. TDG staff members, Jennifer Toole, Ken Ray, Cassie Caleo, Andy Gudgeon, and Bob Patten delivered the new bikes to the surprised children. Of course, having a new bike comes with the responsibility to use it safely – TDG taught the children Bicycle 101, including proper hand signals, the “ABC” safety check, and how to properly wear a helmet. TDG also arranged for the Maryland Brain Injury Foundation to provide a specially sized and adjusted helmet for each child who received a bicycle.
TDG staff member Andy Gudgeon also provided a Bike Maintenance 101 class for older youth at the Club, teaching them basic maintenance tasks such as fixing a flat tire, adjusting the breaks, etc. At the end of the class, we held a raffle and gave away a Novara Bonanza mountain bike to the winner.
A BIG THANKS to the generous staff at TDG who supported this effort, the staff of the Boys & Girls Club who helped to identify children who would receive the bikes, and the Maryland Brain Injury Foundation for donating the helmets.
