Connect Historic Boston Awarded $15.5M TIGER Grant

Since 2012, Toole Design Group has worked with the City of Boston and the National Park Service (NPS) on the Connect Historic Boston initiative to improve infrastructure and wayfinding for the City’s walking, biking, and transit options. Downtown Boston’s narrow, winding roads have been a challenge for finding and accessing popular destinations; this plan will make it easy and fun to travel to NPS visitor centers and other important sites. In September of this year, Connect Historic Boston was awarded a TIGER grant which will be used to implement four of the projects from Connect Historic Boston’s plan that will expand and improve the travel experience for walkers and cyclists navigating downtown Boston and Charlestown. Connect Historic Boston will serve as a model for future NPS initiatives, as an overarching plan to strengthen physical connections while simultaneously augmenting virtual connections through smart mobility and digital wayfinding applications.
