Denison, TX, located 75 miles north of Dallas, is ready to transform their downtown core into an accessible, vibrant, business-friendly civic center for the community. Together with TDG’s Urban Design Group, the City conducted a community design process to help residents and businesses develop a plan for Main Street that reflects the rich history of the city and serves the residents, businesses and visitors that use this vital public space.
Led by Cindy Zerger, AICP, ASLA, Ian Lockwood, P.E., Ken Ray, RLA, and Chris Lambka, RLA, our staff conducted a two-week design workshop in the Fall of 2016. The charrette comprised a week of “discovery,” marked by extensive public outreach, and a week of “design” where we presented concepts incorporating best practices and public input from citizens and local stakeholders. The result was a new shared vision for downtown Denison that improves transportation, creates new parks, and sets the stage for a vibrant new civic heart of the City.
Now, TDG is pleased to have been selected to begin implementing these community-led plans, turning concepts into construction. Our urban designers and engineers now have the opportunity to help implement the solutions that we developed with public input and stakeholder outreach. The award demonstrates the confidence that the City of Denison has in TDG’s multidisciplinary approach to re-envisioning the core of their downtown.
