April is the American Society of Landscape Architects’ World Landscape Architecture Month! Over the next month, Toole Design Group will celebrate the people and projects that make our landscape architecture and urban design practice a vital part of active transportation projects.
As a multidisciplinary planning, engineering and landscape architecture firm, Toole Design’s landscape architects and urban designers play a wide variety of roles in our projects to ensure that design intent is communicated throughout the life of a project. Whether it’s envisioning new uses for public space, integrating green infrastructure, or ensuring that final designs are constructed to plan, our landscape architecture practice develops and ensures a high-quality user experience for those who walk, bike, or drive.
How do landscape architects make it happen? At Toole Design, our practitioners develop concept design and charrette work with cities and towns to help them reimagine their public space, like in Denison, TX. Members of our Urban Design Group, including Chris Lambka, RLA, Ken Ray, RLA and Cindy Zerger, AICP, ASLA helped community members visualize what their downtown could be with the addition of people-focused spaces, parks and placemaking principles.
Our projects incorporate green infrastructure and creative stormwater management solutions that enhance communities with less hardscape, better drainage, and a more enjoyable experience. Projects like the Alger Park Low Impact Development help the District Department of Transportation to plan, design, and construct low-impact design elements, planting layouts, permeable pavement, and project management guidelines that incorporate best management practices. The result will be a more beautiful neighborhood, less runoff, and a more sustainable community
Our landscape architecture practice combines their planning and design skills and training into our streetscape projects to create an equal experience for all users. The Capital City Bikeway and Jackson Street reconstruction in Saint Paul, MN was a ground-up reconstruction of a downtown street, converting it into a multi-modal experience that balances the needs and experiences of multiple users. Placemaking using elements like creative signage, porous pavement, plantings, and furniture placement all contribute to the design of multi-use transportation facilities. Our team ensures that these projects serve all users with functional, enjoyable, and sustainable infrastructure.
At Toole Design, landscape architecture plays a pivotal role in every part of a project, from concept to planning to design and construction. Our practice is integrated into every project and planning effort we undertake for our clients and partners. By focusing on the design intent and user experience, our landscape architects and urban designers ensure that our projects serve all who travel along them.
