Caltrans District-Level Active Transportation Plans

Project Summary

Toole Design led the development of Active Transportation Plans for each of the California Department of Transportation’s 12 districts. As part of this project, we developed an overarching statewide data framework and methodology for collecting, storing, and using active transportation data – including an asset inventory and route prioritization methodology.

Each District Plan draws upon this data to focus on developing context-appropriate recommendations on and adjacent to the Caltrans State Highway System. We have also emphasized strengthening and reconnecting disadvantaged communities and providing safer alternatives to people who walk, bicycle, and use transit.
