Project Summary
Toole Design served as the primary consultant for Connecting Our Region, a joint project of the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority and the Mid-America Regional Council that included collaboration among more than 20 jurisdictions in the Kansas City area. The project’s goal was to create a regional wayfinding system for residents and visitors that would improve navigation for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit throughout the Kansas City region.
Toole Design developed the sign designs, did background research, fieldwork, extensive public engagement, and coordinated with a committee of jurisdictions from across the region. The final guidebook includes guidance on placement and implementation and concept designs for a family of signs that make up the wayfinding system.
