Maui MPO Vision Zero Action Plan

Project Summary
Toole Design worked with Maui County Metropolitan Planning Organization to develop a comprehensive Vision Zero Action Plan. The Plan presented a roadmap of concrete strategies and actions for eliminating fatal and serious injuries on Maui’s roads. To better understand traffic safety concerns and priorities that should be addressed in the Plan, Toole Design evaluated existing policies and practices; assessed data resources and conducted data analysis; and worked with local partners to engage the public and stakeholders. Given the varied contexts on Maui—from very rural to urban—and the island’s robust tourist economy, there are a wide range of traffic safety issues that the Plan addressed to not only reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries, but also support Maui’s vision for a multimodal transportation system that serves all people.
