Project Summary

We are working with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to update its System-wide Guide to Access for the first time in 30 years. This groundbreaking guide aims to establish universal design as standard practice within the MBTA, making the system a model of accessible transit nationwide.

We led the conceptualization and production of graphics and layout to create a concise and beautiful publication. By codifying existing policy and practice in a user-friendly compendium of universal design standards, the Guide makes each mode of transit fully accessible and convenient to all users through design, construction, maintenance, and everyday use. This guidance describes how to maintain safe and consistence access during temporary street and station closures, construction, daily maintenance, special events, and more. We also developed a chapter on the best-in-practice design guidance for creating and maintaining Temporary Paths of Travel.
