Neponset River Greenway Feasibility Study and Concept Plan
Boston, MA
Project Summary
Over the past decade, Boston’s Neponset River Greenway has expanded significantly, becoming a vital connection and recreational destination for local communities and visitors. In 2022, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation launched the Neponset River Greenway Feasibility and Concept Plan to further enhance this network.
This project aims to create a seamless shared-use trail connecting the Neponset River Greenway to the Blue Hills Reservation Trailside Museum. Toole Design was hired to lead the effort, bringing together experts in trail and greenway design, landscape architecture, urban design, and transportation engineering to make this vision a reality.
Expertise Applied
Our project team identified and assessed potential trail routes, using an evaluation matrix to weigh each option. To help visualize the possible routes, we conducted existing conditions analyses, along with detailed plan diagrams, cross-sections, and conceptual intersection sketches. We also hosted public meetings, open houses, and site walks along the proposed trail to gather input from community members and stakeholders.
As we advance toward completing this project, the Neponset River Greenway is set to become a more accessible, scenic, and vibrant trail experience for everyone to enjoy.
