Our Principles for Responsible AI Use

As we integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into our planning, design, and operational practices, we are committed to using it in ways that support—not replace—our professional judgment and core values of ethics, equity, and empathy.

 

1. We use AI in ways that fuel creativity and human connection, for example by streamlining routine tasks so we have more time for critical thinking, collaboration, artistry, and problem solving.

2. We do not use AI in ways that create distance between us and the communities we serve. We engage human-to-human with the ideas and input people share with us.

3. All work created using AI is human-directed and human-reviewed. Biased, inaccurate, or unhelpful ideas are screened out by our staff, whose work is grounded in ethics, equity, and empathy. The people at Toole Design stand behind the words and ideas we elevate to the outside world.

4. We follow our clients’ lead on the use of AI tools in our work, including not using them if clients prefer. We never input sensitive, confidential, or proprietary data or information into systems that could store, reuse, or expose it.
