The City of Boston recently published the 2013 edition of the Boston Complete Streets Design Guidelines – one of the most comprehensive street guides in the world. Toole Design Group was honored to serve as the prime contractor for the Guide, working closely with a team of staff from the City of Boston, as well advocates and other local professionals. “This is a culmination of several years of intensive effort,” said Nick Jackson, who served as the Project Manager. “We are very proud of the final product. It addresses the details that are often glossed over in street design manuals, while also giving the designer the flexibility to use creative solutions when designing city streets.”
The Guidelines represent a fundamental change in Boston’s approach to street design and operations, in concert with Boston’s vision for becoming a more walkable, bikable, transit-friendly, and livable city. From best practices in stormwater management to the latest in smart curbside technologies, guidance on innovative street designs are conveyed in a clear and stunning layout like no other guide previously created.
The Guidelines can be downloaded for free, or you can purchase a hard-bound book for $86.39 at bostoncompletestreets.org. They will be unveiled by the City at an event on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2013 from 4:00-5:30 pm at BSA Space, 290 Congress Street. Come and join us!
