We are pleased to announce that the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) selected a team led by Toole Design to develop Active Transportation plans for each of its 12 districts. These plans will help California better connect local transportation networks with strategic improvements for active transportation on, across, or parallel to the State Highway System. This is a key step in their statewide active transportation plan and will help the state reach their goals of increasing bicycling, walking, and transit trips.
By 2040, Caltrans wants to ensure that people of all ages, abilities, and incomes can safely, conveniently, and comfortably walk and bicycle for their transportation needs. Our staff is helping to develop a framework and methodology for collecting, storing, and accessing data across the state to inform decisions about improving active transportation. We’ll also support Caltrans’s focus on social equity and assist them in their effort to invest in communities who depend on transit and active transportation with context-sensitive outreach and analysis.
