Michelle Danila, PE, PTOE

Director of Engineering Operations, North America

Michelle serves as Toole Design’s Director of Engineering Operations for North America. She focuses on making communities more livable by ensuring that our transportation networks have travel options that serve all modes, and by producing high-quality, constructible plans. With a broad background in transportation planning, traffic analysis, safety analysis, and roadway and intersection design, Michelle strives to improve safety for all roadway users, especially people walking, biking, and taking transit. She has worked on roadway and intersection design projects throughout the United States, and she is skilled in taking designs from concept through construction.

During her career, Michelle has worked in both the public and private engineering sectors. She also recently served as the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Complete Streets Engineer, and she served as a lead author for the Federal Highway Administration’s Achieving Multimodal Networks: Applying Design Flexibility and Reducing Conflicts, a contributing author of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Separated Bike Lane Planning and Design Guide, and a member of the Massachusetts Governor’s Office’s MassTrails Team. Finally, Michelle has been the engineer-of-record for numerous projects. Her background gives her a unique perspective on project management and project development.

Outside of the office, Michelle enjoys traveling and biking with her husband and son. She has also run five marathons, including the 2019 Boston Marathon.
