Crystal City Transportation Study
Arlington, VA
Project Summary
Crystal City is brimming with potential as one of the few urban areas in the world that is only a few hundred feet from a major airport, home to Amazon’s new HQ2 campus, and connected to a Metro system, light rail, Bus Rapid Transit, and multiple highways and street corridors.
We proposed transportation and connectivity solutions throughout Crystal City to help it become a pedestrian-friendly, regional destination for residents, commercial development, and tech campuses. We worked with a private developer as well as Arlington County government and state partners to build consensus for design concepts, developing inspiring graphics to help build support among elected officials.
We created an implementable street network that is well-connected, provides better access to transit stations and new developments, and includes attractive, multimodal streets for retail and residential development. The result is a transportation plan that repositions streets as the urban fabric of this mixed-use neighborhood.
