Project Summary

The City of Denison is proud of its history and heritage as the first rail town in Texas and is ready to reimagine their downtown to attract new economic investment. To make the public realm reflect the community’s vision, Denison asked us to develop a plan to transform downtown into an attractive, vibrant place that works for people of all ages and abilities. We conducted a two-week design charrette, designing side-by-side with members of the community and distilling their input into a cohesive urban design strategy.

We are now overseeing construction of a portion of Main Street. When complete, Main Street and Barret Street will feature flush street designs that re-purpose more than half of the right-of-way into space for people, and a vacant lot will be transformed into the civic heart of the City, with a community center, flexible pavilions, and areas for large events. We are pleased to continue working with the City of Denison to develop their downtown into a community space that welcomes everyone.

The Designing Downtown Denison Report that [Toole Design] developed will set the standard for implementation of innovative streetscape design and placemaking throughout our community.
