Project Summary

As part of a larger bike and pedestrian plan, Toole Design conducted an in-depth, data-focused study of the recently constructed St. Croix Crossing Loop Trail connecting Wisconsin and Minnesota. We recommended two interconnected approaches to help attract tourism, foster economic development, and enhance quality of life. The first is a low-stress, walkable network connecting communities to recreational destinations, and the second is a network of bike routes and paved shoulders geared toward attracting bicycle tourists to St. Croix county’s stunning landscapes. We used the lessons learned on this project to develop a comprehensive manual for funding, designing, and implementing multijurisdictional transportation initiatives, sharing the St. Croix experience with other communities in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
