Project Summary

The City of Vancouver, BC committed to a multimodal transportation solution on W. 10th Avenue, a busy corridor for active transportation and hospital patient mobility. Faced with numerous conflicts between people biking and vulnerable users accessing the hospital, Toole Design’s collaborative stakeholder engagement process brokered an innovative compromise. We provided expert review of the proposed bikeway designs developed by the City and made recommendations for accommodating everyone along the corridor. Once the City was satisfied that the designs were safe for people with disabilities, included the hospital’s loading zones, and addressed safety concerns, the city constructed the bikeway in 2018.
