Toole Design partners with agencies to refocus their guidelines and design manuals to enhance the safety, comfort, and accessibility of all modes. We convey complex design topics in easy-to-understand design details and graphic illustrations, giving communities the tools to create streets that are enjoyable, functional, and safer. We don’t stop at publication — our skilled facilitators deliver custom trainings to help practitioners put guidance into practice.

We have developed design guidance at city, county, state, and federal levels, covering the full range of contexts from downtown boulevards to rural highways. The 5th Edition of the AASHTO Bike guide, led by Toole Design, set a new national standard with revamped design ranges, accessibility recommendations, and intersection designs that improve safety for all travelers. Our deep experience designing streets for all modes results in clear and comprehensive guidance, as evidenced by the Ohio Multimodal Design Guide. Bringing in-depth research skills and real-world project experience, we create roadway design guidance that endures.
