As part of the ”Moving New Orleans Bikes” project, the City and its partners enlisted Toole Design to help quickly plan, design, and build 50 miles of low-stress, connected bikeways in just two years. To increase the number of people who choose to bicycle, and to make bicycling safer for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, the City is moving quickly to maximize the impact of these investments and connect more people to active modes of transportation.
The ultimate vision for the New Orleans bicycle network is one that is low-stress, connected, useful, equitable, and can be implemented in a timely manner. Planners, engineers, and GIS analysts across several of our offices worked to achieve this vision and helped the City meet their ambitious goals for mobility, safety, and sustainability. We provided rapid planning and design services that include citywide analyses and network planning, design guidance and standard details, public engagement materials and support, traffic analysis, and detailed designs for construction. We developed frameworks that streamlined decision-making in design and expedite the timeline for developing construction plans, and we helped the City of New Orleans to choose build locations where they will have the most immediate impact.
The Moving New Orleans Bikes work is funded in part by PeopleForBikes‘ Big Jump project.
