Project Summary

Brampton, ON wanted to take one of their largest remaining swaths of land and, instead of building a new interstate, create a community that is environmentally and economically sustainable. Toole Design was up for the challenge.

Through a series of design charrettes and extensive stakeholder engagement, we developed a community-focused master plan for the Heritage Heights area. The plan reflects the community’s desire for smart growth and prioritizes protecting the ecosystem. It includes a series of transit-oriented neighborhoods connected by a network of greenways, trails, bicycle facilities, and Complete Streets. The boulevard at the heart of the community carries the capacity of a highway as well as transit and bicyclists. All community destinations, like parks and schools, will be within a 10-minute bike ride or 5-10-minute walk.

When built, the community will actively accommodate the region’s high growth rate while positioning the City to attract economic development and investment.
