Project Summary

Minneapolis parks often serve as popular bicycle commuting routes, but sometimes this through traffic disrupts the recreation experience for other users. Toole Design prepared two initial concept designs that make the trail system safer for pedestrians and cyclists while preserving the historic character of Matthews Park. Our final design encourages bicyclists to slow down and uses changes in land shape and trail materials to reinforce the separation of bike and pedestrian traffic. The plans also provide additional seating near a ball field and a play area for younger children.
