Project Summary

Complete Streets policies offer policy and design guidance for cities to ensure that their street networks accommodate all users. A big part of that guidance in recent years has focused on the curb, space traditionally used to store vehicles. As part of the development of the City of Minneapolis, MN’s Complete Streets policy, Toole Design developed a Curbside Use Prioritization Framework that helps the City prioritize uses of this valuable space based on the context, the time of day, and the multimodal impact of the corridor’s design. By creating a system for assigning value to the variety of curbside activities, Minneapolis will be able to make better use of the curb for everyone travelling along city corridors.
