Lights, Camera, Action…Toole Design Group Produces Safe Routes to School Video

Toole Design Group recently produced the Vermont Safe Routes to School Crossing Guard Training: Best Practices for Safe Crossing for the State of Vermont’s Safe Routes to School Program. This video was filmed in Vermont using actual crossing guards. While it was created specifically for schools in Vermont, it could easily be adapted for use in other parts of the country. The video is part of a crossing guard kit, which includes a lightweight stop paddle, vest, pocket guide for guards, and guide for schools to start or improve their program.

The idea was initiated by Vermont Transportation Department (VTrans) to improve the quality of crossing guard programs throughout Vermont. Many crossings in the State are in rural locations and have minimal traffic controls, so crossing guards are a critical component of student safety.

As the prime contractor for VTrans’s Safe Routes to School Resource Center, Toole Design Group has produced a variety of resources such as this video.  Along with our partners at URS, we have also prepared school travel plans, supported walk and bike to school events, led task force/stakeholder outreach, conducted trainings (including an upcoming webinar on sustaining walk to school programs in the winter), and have led an annual meeting for partners for the past two years.
