We are excited to share that Cindy Zerger, PLA, ASLA, is our new Director of Design, overseeing our urban design, landscape architecture, visualization, environmental graphic design, and graphic design practice areas.
Design has been in our firm’s DNA—and in our name—since day one, but over the past decade our urban design practice has evolved to become a major force within the company. That evolution has been guided, in part, by Cindy’s vision of “path as place,” which recognizes that the spaces between destinations deserve the same care, creativity, and design intention as the destinations themselves. That vision also comes through in her contributions to signature projects such as Jackson Street and the Capital City Bikeway, Denison Main Street, Joe Louis Greenway, and Berkeley Southside Complete Streets.
Watch Cindy’s conversation with Director of Engineering Bill Schultheiss, PE, to learn more about her vision for the next era of design at Toole Design:
With design now formally positioned alongside planning and engineering, our multidisciplinary teams are better equipped than ever to bring a landscape-forward approach to street design, helping communities leverage transportation solutions to address multiple challenges, such as increased flooding, overburdened utilities, and the worsening heat island effect.
We’re grateful for Cindy’s design leadership over the years and look forward to even stronger collaboration among our urban designers, engineers, planners, and landscape architects as we transform streets into 21st century linear landscapes.
