Project Summary

This project was the first step in an initiative to transform 17 miles of unused railway into a key trail connection and community amenity.  Toole Design led a feasibility analysis and developed concept-level designs that reimagined the Eastside Rail Corridor as a regional trail. More than a corridor analysis, our efforts from beginning to end focused on embedding the new facility into the regional network of trails across the greater Seattle region. We conducted a demand analysis for trail volume, defined corridor design guidelines and delivered a comprehensive wayfinding protocol. Construction is currently underway on segments of the trail.
